slope stability

Greenfield Geotechnical has experience evaluating and mitigating landslide hazards.  Projects have ranged in size and scope from residential landslide repairs to regional-scale landslide hazard screening.  Greenfield Geotechnical uses state-of-the-art procedures to evaluate slope stability, including

  • finite element analyses, which account for the complicated interaction of soil, groundwater, and structurals, and

  • 3D regional analyses using the USGS's Scoops3D.

foundation design

Mike has a decade of experience designing piles, drilled shafts, footings, and other foundation elements.  Greenfield Geotechnical also specializes in settlement analysis and ground improvement design.  Fast and robust finite element analyses can be used to evaluate the complicated interaction between soils and structures, reducing the need for excessively conservative foundation designs.

Although much of the basis for foundation design was developed in the 20th century, the field is still evolving.  Foundation design is moving towards a risk and performance-based approach.  Greenfield Geotechnical has the capabilities to perform the probabilistic settlement and bearing capacity analyses necessary for the next generation of foundations.
